Alpine Lakes
The Alpine Lakes Loop Trail is one of the most popular hikes in Great Basin National Park. It is a 2.7 mile hike and it is located in between the trail to the Bristlecone Pine Grove and the Wheeler Peak Trail. This trail joins two lakes, Teresa and Stella Lakes, which are actually shallow (no more than 10 feet deep). They freeze in the winter completely to ice. Teresa Lake is filled by a spring nearby, which flows into the lake by another stream banked by green grass and wildflowers. Stella Lake, has amazing and stunning views of Wheeler Peak and Jeff Davis Peak. It is three miles long and twelve miles away from the park visitor center on Wheeler Peak Scenic Drive and 6 miles from Baker
Alpine Lakes formed by two divergent plate boundaries. These plate boundaries pull apart one another, which causes them to get shallow. Water slips in to create what we call a pond or lake.
